I CORINTHIANS 10:1-13
I. The Privileges of Israel vv1-4
A. The great escape from slavery in Egypt.
B. The immersion experience: baptized into Moses.
C. Provided with food and water; note the spiritual supply available to them.
D. Enjoyed the presence of God wherever they went.
II. The failures of Israel vv5-10
A. Idolatry. Note Exodus 20:22-23 and 24.
B. Sexual immorality. See Numbers 25
C. Questioning the reliability of Moses and God. See Numbers 21:4-5
D. Complaining and grumbling. See Numbers 11 and 14:36-37
III. How do we apply the record of Israel to our situations now?
A. Greed is a form of idolatry? See Colossian 3:5. Avoid it like the plague!
B. Sexual immorality is only a click away on your computer. Note I Corinthians 6:18, Philippians 4:8 and II Thessalonians 4:4
C. We tempt the Lord by questioning His right to lead us into hardship.
D. Complaining and grumbling can be a lack of submission to the leadership God for us. Digest Philippians 2:14
E. We become alert to our own weakness and vulnerability.
F. We trust God to be faithful.
G. We look for the way to escape.
H. We treasure God's word in our hearts. See Psalm 119:11
I. We rely on Jesus, the source of our strength, Ephesians 6:10
J. We realize that our sins sent Him to the cross, and we want to please Him.
